Crazy Trip™ 2010: Post 1

I’ll be taking the train from California to Florida–by way of the Chicago and Washington, DC stations. Go ahead, type this into Google Maps (link provided at right). It doesn’t make sense, does it? Of course not. Train travel in the USA isn’t designed to make sense. I’m not exactly sure what it is designed for these days, but maybe after 5 straight days of travel on it, I’ll have a better idea. Why am I doing this Crazy Thing? To get to the National Conference put on by the Romance Writers of America, of course. It’s being held at Disney World this year.

Yes, that’s right. Disney World. Thousands of aspiring romance writers will be amassing in a conference facility at the Happiest Place on Earth™. It boggles the mind, doesn’t it? For myself, I find theme parks to be off-putting, sometimes disturbing (a bit like how I feel when watching “A Clockwork Orange,” actually). To imagine being in one with thousands of RWA members–who, if last year’s conference (my first) was any indication, are some of the most cheerful, enthusiastic people on the planet–is something my mind is not capable of at this time. If ever. But, truly, I can hardly wait to experience it…and then post stories and photos here.
